![]() SoftLight ® Laser FeaturesThe facts: Different patients will have varying results with laser hair removal. There is no “best laser” to use on all clients, and “permanent” hair reduction is marketing hype. All lasers require multiple treatments, and hair always grows back. The question is: how much pain and risk will your clients endure for the illusion of permanency? For skin resurfacing, you have another choice – a “high energy” laser, chemicals or dermabrasion or a lower energy approach (microdermabrasion, SoftLight). Physics, not hype: Regardless of their basis (ruby, alexandrite, diode) all other lasers lack SoftLight’s process patent, and are dependent on melanin in hair and skin for efficacy. Consequently, they are relatively more effective on dark hair with light skin, and are virtually useless on light hair, or gray hair. They are not recommended for darker skin (Types IV, V and VI), and should not be used on suntanned skin. That excludes about 75% of your potential customers, especially in the “sunbelt”! Treating darker skinned clients with any non-SoftLight laser is a potential liability for the aesthetician, and painful and risky for the client. Because they heat the melanin in the skin, they need a cooling handpiece or anesthetics to reduce the pain to tolerable levels, but don’t reduce the risk of pigmentation changes. The difference: SoftLight exploits two technologies. First, the longer wavelength Nd: YAG 1064 nm laser light is much less strongly absorbed by melanin than shorter wavelength lasers, so it penetrates more deeply with minimal epidermal reaction and heating. Second, the patented carbon lotion absorbs the most of the laser energy, not your client’s skin. When it vaporizes, it removes the hair, or resurfaces the skin, with less pain, heat, blistering, and risk of pigmentation changes. The choice: You really have only two alternatives – lasers that heat melanin, or SoftLight that substitutes carbon lotion, and photomechanically reduces hair growth or resurfaces the skin. Choosing SoftLight opens up a huge potential market with darker skin, plus adds tattoo removal as an added benefit.
